The rail line between Kandy and Ella is regularly ranked among the world’s most scenic train journeys, winding through tea estates, tunnels and mist-covered valleys. Carriages range from unreserved third class, for an authentic and social ride, to reserved observation cars with wider windows and guaranteed seating. We recommend booking reserved seats well in advance during peak season, particularly on the Nanu Oya to Ella stretch.
